Datasets
I have worked on making a couple of datasets to serve my own research interests. None of these are published, and they use more or less only open source data which I’ve found online. It’s also all quantitative so there’s probably some interesting stuff for you to tinker with if you want. Feel free to use any of it for your own uses (I got all this data for free, so I wouldn’t be fair to charge for it!). I’ll also try and make a paper for some of the ones that have research questions, but I’m not too sure about that yet.
Foreign Aid-Voting Index
Research Question: How does foreign aid influence state voting alignment with P5 members at the United Nations?
Prototype
This country-year dataset covers over 8700 observations and trys to answer this question by adding the following core variables:
UN-Alignment dyad Score for each P5 member and non-P5 states in a given year
Logged GDP per capita & GDP growth
Logged total foreign aid
A series of right-hand, control, and dummy variables
Comparative Democracy Index
I’ve been working on an open-source dataset that compiles data from four democracy indices: Freedom House, Varieties of Democracy, the Polity Project, and the Economist Intelligence Unit. I’ve put the links below, but here’s some general info on the project:
Version 1.0
Over 14,000 observations covering over 200 countries and territories from 1940-2025
Raw data from all four datasets is scraped and complied here
Data is also standardized into a 0-10 scale
Z-scores are provided for empirical testing
